Dig for fossils you can KEEP!

The Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the 5th Annual Crazy Fossil Dig on November 7, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An extension of National Earth Science week, October 11-17, the Crazy Fossil Dig features displays, tools, and guided tours by the Dallas Paleontological Society. You can even keep the fossils you find!

We are very proud to be a part of this national educational event by holding a unique celebration of our own. There will be tons of fun for visitors during the Crazy Fossil Dig! Early attendees will receive a Mineral Wells Fossil Park apron, designed especially for your next paleontological adventure. Special guests from the Dallas Paleontological Society will also be on site to assist with fossil identification.

With free admission to the park, this is hardly an opportunity to pass up! For more information about the Crazy Fossil Dig, as well as directions to the Mineral Wells Fossil Park and a preview of what you might find, visit http://www.mineralwellsfossilpark.com.

Small zip bags or nail aprons are good for small finds and keeping things organized.

Knee pads or patches are recommended for crawling around.

Planning Your Visit

This is a fairly primitive site, so be sure to bring a lot of water with you. During the hot summer months visiting in the early morning and evenings is highly recommended. There is a new shade structure, but it is still a good idea to bring an umbrella with you for shade while digging. The park has primitive restrooms and no running water.

Enter and exit collecting area at designated points only. Area has dangerous drop offs, steep slopes and loose soil.

Encounters with dangerous insects/animals are possible.
