Grand Opening

Join us at the grand opening as we hear from the Dallas Paleontological Society and City of Mineral Wells Mayor Mike Allen. Mr. Allen will discuss how an old landfill borrow pit at the end of an unpaved road has been converted to a park that's already drawing interest from far and near. The program will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8th at 11:00 am. The Mineral Wells Area Chamber of Commerce ambassadors will cut the ribbon on the park about 11:20 a.m. Then everyone will be free to hunt for fossils! Free gifts are available for the first 100 guests that day.

Planning Your Visit
This is a fairly primitive site, so be sure to bring a lot of water with you. During the hot summer months visiting in the early morning and evenings is highly recommended. There is a new shade structure, but it is still a good idea to bring an umbrella with you for shade while digging. The park has primitive restrooms and no running water.
Precautions
Enter and exit collecting area at designated points only. Area has dangerous drop offs, steep slopes and loose soil.
